RGO is currently recruiting for a Corporate Health & Safety Advisor to work with internal employees and external partners to ensure a continued safe and responsible working environment. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the successful candidate will facilitate the development, implementation and maintenance of workplace safety programs. This newly created role effectively splits their time between RGO Flooring Ltd., New Interiors Ltd., RGO Products Ltd., and RGO Technologies Inc. to ensure efficiency and consistency in the management and administration of RGO’s Health & Safety program.

Responsibilities:

RGO Flooring Ltd. & New Interiors Ltd. (80% of this roles time will be accountable to the following responsibilities):

  • Ensure that all HSE policies and procedures are followed by company or contract personnel in compliance with local, provincial, and federal safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Assess and evaluate work procedures and environments to identify potential hazards and eliminate them or ensure that adequate controls are in place.
  • Advise managers, supervisors and employees about safe work practices and safety standards and regulations. Interact with managers and supervisors in all divisions of RGO to ensure safe operation in all areas.
  • Visit job sites on a daily basis to monitor safety and address non-compliance as required. Continually audit site safety performance levels and implement any OHS policy changes to help prevent any future incidents.
  • Ensure that all FLHAs and other required documentation are written and followed for each job.
  • Monitor all elements associated with the COR certification and audit process.
  • Deliver safety orientations and tailgate safety meetings on a regular basis.
  • Conduct incident investigations, formulate action plans and follow up on assigned corrective actions to ensure they are completed.
  • Review all incident reports and perform root cause analysis of incidents in conjunction with area manager.
  • Implement corrective actions, assist in providing relevant OHS information that applies to those corrections, and provide completed documentation for review.
  • Prepare Hazard Assessments, Job Safety Analyses and safety execution plans in compliance with government, client, and company requirements.
  • Mentor operational personnel with OHS related elements.
  • Communicate with clients and their representatives regarding safety at field work locations.
  • Assist with the completion of safety related paperwork for the submission of bids, tenders, and pre-qualifications.

RGO Products Ltd. & RGO Technologies Inc. (20% of this role’s time will be accountable to the following responsibilities):

  • Collaborate effectively with the Human Resources Advisor as required to ensure the overall safety of all employees and specifically in reviewing incidents and managing the accommodation of workers.
  • Recommend changes and modifications to safety standards and assist in their implementation.
  • Assist with policy development within RGO’s Health & Safety program.
  • Actively participate in and attend monthly H&S Committee meetings.
  • Coordinate and facilitate safety training as required.
  • Assist with the completion of safety related paperwork for the submission of bids, tenders, and pre-qualifications.

Qualifications:

  • Professional certification or training in Occupational Health and Safety.  Certification as a Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is preferred.  Working toward one of these designations may be acceptable dependent upon other experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an environment related to construction and with field workers.
  • Experience with Certificate of Recognition (COR) through AASP or ASCA is an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • First Aid certification is required; emergency medical experience is an asset.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects under tight timelines while working effectively within a team environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate good judgement, tact and diplomacy.
  • Understand and knowledgeable regarding Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulations and Code and how they pertain to company operations.
  • Understand appropriate provincial and federal regulations associated with the fields of industrial health, safety and environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both individually and in large group settings. Comfortable working with all levels within the organization and able to deliver presentations and workshops.
  • Self-starter that requires minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication skills; able to interact with all levels of employees with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.
  • Must have a valid Alberta class 5 driver’s licence.
