Position: Temporary, Contract

Term: October 1, 2018 to November 15, 2019

RGO is currently recruiting for a Human Resources Manager for a one-year contract. The HR Manager oversees the overall support and functions pertaining to HR, Payroll/Benefits, Health & Safety programs and organizational objectives for over 250 staff members while providing leadership and supporting four business units: RGO Products Ltd, RGO Office Products Edmonton Ltd, RGO Flooring Ltd, and New Interiors Ltd, as well as consulting services to Executive Mat Services Ltd. 

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the needs and nature of the various business units to provide HR value added insight, recommendations and solutions
  • Work proactively and collaboratively with managers and supervisors to prevent and resolve complex HR issues, provide mentoring, coaching and recommendations to leadership regarding performance management issues, best practices, standards and compliance for resolution, as well as disciplinary and termination actions
  • Develop fair and equitable policies and procedures related to HR and act as a resource for managers and employees in the interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Ensure the principles of human rights, diversity and privacy are integrated into HR practices
  • Strategize with management team to ensure corporate announcements and initiatives are effectively communicated to enhance transparency within the company as it applies to alignment of performance and organizational goals
  • Lead the development of RGO’s competitive compensation plan, participating compensation benchmarking, salary reviews and informing managers of competitive practices on an annual and as-needed basis
  • Implement talent management strategies that attract, recruit, and retain employees that align with the company’s cultural values
  • Manage and actively participate in HR initiatives; recruitment, compensation, benefits, training, employee relations, disability management and health & safety of the organization
  • Develop and facilitate training programs for managers, supervisors and staff as required
  • Provide oversight and direction directly to the HR Department (Human Resources, Safety, Payroll, and Benefits) including hiring, training, mentoring, coaching, and performance management
  • Implement departmental goals and support staff in order to achieve them
  • Manage a team in completing deliverables in a timely manner while maintaining quality work, professionalism, and a high level of customer service
  • Oversee decisions regarding termination, time off, allocation of continuous development spending, and other ad hoc discretionary matters of employment for direct reports within the HR Department (Human Resources, Health & Safety, Payroll, and Benefits)
  • Maintain signing authority for items in various RGO departments related to wellness, safety, recruiting and other HR initiatives
  • Oversight and management of all legal employment issues
  • Actively monitor and question business practices, with the goal of protecting both the company and its employees
  • Ensure policies, procedures, practices, processes, and HR programs are consistently administered, aligned with organizational goals, and in compliance with applicable legislation and industry/professional standards

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7 – 8 years of HR Generalist experience, preferably in an environment that is focused on customer service and/or sales, including several years of supervisory or management experience overseeing staff in HR, Payroll and Safety. (Experience should include most of: recruitment, total rewards, performance management, employee relations, workforce management/planning, diversity, compensation, workforce planning, safety, payroll and benefits)
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human Resources, Management, or Business Administration or equivalent in the form of a combination of training and on-the-job experience
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is required
  • Excellent knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices and thorough knowledge of Alberta  Employment Standards legislation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of HRIS and Payroll software programs is preferred
  • Ability to lead, mentor and coach managers and supervisors in the management of people
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and the proven ability to deal effectively with all levels of the organization. Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong customer service orientation
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects within established deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Tact, diplomacy, confidentiality and good judgement when dealing with information pertaining to candidates, employees and the company
  • Initiative and ability to think critically and act logically in evaluating situations and generating required steps to ensure success
  • Positive, hands-on attitude with a client-focused approach
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check is required
